About Us |
| Syarikat Thong Guan Trading Sdn Bhd | TGP, short for Thong Guan Plastic & Paper Industries, had a humble beginning in a small town where its initial operations were in packaging and trading tea and coffee.
Founded in 1942 by the late Mr Ang Thong Guan with a mere RM50.00 capital, the company expanded into a trading operation with the establishment of a fleet of vans distributing its tea and coffee and other consumable items including plastic products to local markets. With the ready market from its trading operations, Thong Guan ventured into the manufacturing of plastic products with raffia string and drinking straw in the 1960s.
In the 1970s, due to the small local market and limited distribution channels, we went on a diversification spree which saw us extending our manufacturing product range to include plastic rope, plastic bags and sheets, paper serviette and cologne paper towels.
The 1980s was the beginning of the industrialization of Malaysia with the Government emphasizing on import replacement and local industries supporting foreign direct investment. This was the period that we upgraded our production technologies and processes to serve the stringent quality and services expectation of the rapidly growing multinationals and other local factories.
This was also the period where we expanded our production base to Sabah to tap the rapid development of East Malaysia. Today, we are the biggest producer of plastic packaging products in Sabah.
Our hard work and continuous improvement on quality paid off when we not only managed to carve a piece of the local industrial plastic packaging market but also the export market. After more than a year of development work, our first container was exported to the discerning Japan market in the early 1990s.
Today, we export more than 120 containers of plastic packaging a month to Japan. Our commitment towards producing consistent quality products was demonstrated when in 1996, our Sungai Petani based factory was accredited with the ISO 9002 certification. In 1998, our Sabah based factory follow suit.
In 1997, we were listed on the Second Board of the KLSE. In the same year, we started the manufacturing of pallet stretch film. By the year 2000, we were the largest producer of cast pallet stretch film in South East Asia and one of the biggest in Asia-Pacific. By 2002, the Company was listed on the main board of the KLSE.
Today, TGP is one of the largest producers of cast pallet stretch film in the Asia Pacific with annual production output in excess of 85,000 metric tons.
Indeed, we have made great strides and charted many successes for the past 63 years, but our mission remains. We deliver - not only optimum quality products, but supreme customer service beyond expectations.
