Waste Disposal
As part of integrated solid waste management, Alam Flora manages and operates waste disposal facilities as well. Currently, Alam Flora manages 14 disposal sites under its management; 3 sites in Selangor and 11 in Pahang.
Admissible Wastes
Types of waste that are allowed to be disposed off at the disposal sites are as below:
1. Domestic waste 2. Commercial waste 3. Industrial waste except schedule/toxic waste 4. Construction waste 5. Waste from drains and rivers cleansing 6. Waste from road cleansing 7. Garden waste (include animal carcasses) 8. Waste from sludge treatment plant 9. Any type of wastes approved by the Department of Environment (DOE)
Prohibited Waste
There are certain wastes that are not allowed to be disposed off at landfills due to their potential hazardous impact on public health and the surrounding environment. These wastes have to be disposed off at a place especially designated for such purposes. Listed below are some common prohibited wastes:
1. Biomedical wastes 2. Radioactive wastes 3. Asbestos 4. Lead acids or other batteries 5. Used oil 6. Toxic/scheduled wastes
Special Wastes
Waste that needed special handling is classified as special waste. These type of wastes require special manner of treatment and include:
1. Bulky waste 2. Clearing, grubbing, yard waste 3. Construction and demolition waste 4. Tires 5. Extremely heavy objects 6. Animal carcasses 7. Recyclables 8. Containers which are hard to determine if they are empty 9. Waste requiring DOE's approval
